The Swiss Private School Register was founded on August 28, 2006 by the Swiss Federation of Private Schools SFPS (Berne), hotelleriesuisse (Berne) and the Foundation for the Advancement of the Rudolf Steiner School (Stiftung zur Förderung der Rudolf Steiner Pädagogik) in Switzerland (Schaffhausen) in collaboration with the most important Swiss trade associations.  The purpose of the Register is to certify high standards of educational services and to demonstrate the integrity and credibility of the private schools listed in the register as well as to protect Switzerland’s reputation as a centre for high quality educational activity.

Until now, it has been impossible for private schools in Switzerland to demonstrate the quality of their programs to the public through a publicly recognized legal standard of accreditation at the national or cantonal level.  The above mentioned organizations have therefore decided, on their own initiative, to fill this gap in the legal code by founding the “Swiss Private School Register”. The leading Swiss trade associations (Union suisse des arts et métiers USAM, Union patronale suisse, economiesuisse, Fédération des Entreprises Romandes and Centre patronal) support this initiative. The majority of the seats on the Foundation Board are held by members of these organizations, giving the initiative a high level of credibility.

Guaranteeing quality and acting as an information hub are main tasks

The purpose of this Register is to certify high standards of educational services and thereby demonstrate the integrity and credibility of the registered private schools to the public, to authorities and to customers.  In the case that problems arise with a school entered in the Register, the Register also acts as a point of contact and information exchange for Swiss and foreign students.  In addition, the Register aims to protect Switzerland’s reputation as a centre for high quality educational activity as well as to safeguard the reputation of its private educational institutions.
