On August 28, 2006, the Swiss Private School Register Foundation was established by the Association of Swiss Private Schools (FSPS) together with the leading associations of the Swiss economy. The purpose of this foundation is to protect the high reputation of Switzerland as a center of education and its private educational institutions.
Until now, Swiss private schools have not been able to obtain accreditation and thus certify their trustworthiness at either federal or cantonal level due to the lack of a legal basis. The founding associations of the foundation have therefore decided to close this gap in the law on their own initiative and to establish a “Swiss Private School Register”. The leading Swiss business associations (Schweizerischer Gewerbeverband sgv, Schweizer Arbeitgeberverband SAV, economiesuisse, Fédération des Entreprises Romandes and Centre Patronal) support this intention and give the idea the desired credibility by taking over the majority of seats on the foundation board.
The purpose of the foundation is to create and maintain a register of private schools in Switzerland, which certifies the seriousness and trustworthiness of the registered schools and communicates this to interested parties.
The Foundation serves the migration authorities, the public and third parties interested in educational services as an important orientation and information platform for quality-conscious private schools.
The criteria and requirements for inclusion in the register are set out in separate regulations.
The Foundation also acts as a contact and information point for domestic and foreign students in the event of problems with schools entered in the register.
The Foundation also aims to protect the high reputation of Switzerland as a center of education and of private educational institutions.

The Board of Trustees of the Swiss Private School Register Foundation is composed as follows:
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the administration and overall management of the Foundation. It has all powers that are not expressly assigned to another body in the foundation deed and the foundation’s regulations.
The Swiss Private School Register Foundation is subject to the supervision of the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA).
