Registration

You are a private school based in Switzerland and would like to be entered in the Swiss Private School Register. We recommend that you first read the information about the benefits of an entry, the registration criteria and costs as well as the regulations. In the Registration documents section you will find all the necessary instructions and documents for registering your school.

Benefit

Seriousness and trustworthiness:
The Swiss Private School Register is primarily intended to certify that the registered private schools are willing and able to fulfill their educational obligations at a high level of quality and in accordance with the contract.

A single reference system:
There is only one private school register in Switzerland, which is de facto recognized by the authorities.

Promotion of Switzerland as an educational destination:
The image of Switzerland as a country of education is promoted and protected by the private school register.

A seal of quality for private schools:
Schools can clearly distinguish themselves from dubious schools by their entry in the register.n or schools that have fallen into disrepute.

Facilitating the issuing of visas: The entry in the register also helps schools to obtain visas for their pupils from abroad (see SEM circular).
Das Privatschulregister ist im Zuge der Visa-Erteilung eine wichtige Orientierungshilfe für die Schweizer Vertretungen im Ausland.

Promotion of the private-public partnership:
When cooperating with private institutions and awarding mandates in the education sector, the Confederation and cantons must be able to check the trustworthiness of potential negotiating partners. The Private School Register is therefore a possible confidence-building basis.

Criteria

The Swiss Private School Register Foundation bases the entry of a private school in this register on various criteria. Among other things, private schools must have a recognized quality assurance system, clearly formulated contractual conditions, observe fairness in advertising and have taken out the necessary insurance. • The private school must have a quality assurance system that is recognized by the Board of Trustees.
  • The legally required authorization from the canton of location must be available and documented to the Foundation.
  • Proof of adequate public liability insurance must be provided.
  • The private school must submit a current extract from the debt collection and loss certificate register and (if available) an excerpt from the commercial register.
  • The private school must submit its training contracts and advertising documents and ensure that its national and international advertising measures or contract documents clearly state whether the training program is
    • an education recognized by the education authorities of Switzerland or the education authorities of another country; or
    • exam preparation for an internationally or nationally recognized qualification; or
    • a training course with a qualification recognized by national or international associations, or
    • training without state or association recognition.
  • The training contract provisions must contain clearly formulated information on admission requirements, the curriculum, teaching methods and times, the start and duration of training and the number of lessons. Information must also be provided on accommodation and meals, the type of recognition of the qualification and the costs (including school materials and examination fees).
  • Additional criteria for hotel management schools, MBA schools and private colleges:
    • Positive report from the vocational training office of the canton in which it is located
    • Positive report from the migration office of the canton of location
    • Visit to the school by a delegation of the Swiss Private School Register (entails additional fees in accordance with section 3 of the regulations on entry in the PSR)
